How to Combat Dry Winter Air

How to Combat Dry Winter Air

The first day of winter is nearing, and while the temperatures have already dropped, they’re only going to get lower over the next few months. However, staying warm isn’t the only concern you should have. Winter is also notorious for the worsening of indoor air quality. IT’s a combination of many things, everyone being trapped indoors for more extended periods of time, dry air, and more. Keep reading for tips on combatting the winter air that’s to come.

Increase the Humidity

As temperatures drop, the air tends to dry out as well. Drier air can be damaging in many ways; it impacts not only your health and comfort but also your home.

If you have wooden furniture or floors or own any leather products, dry air will cause these products to crack and even warp.

Limit the Toxins

As we mentioned earlier, cold weather keeps people inside for longer periods of time, which leads to more contaminants being transmitted throughout your home. One way to improve the quality of air in your home is to add more greenery. That’s right; some plants are known to detoxify the air, sound them, and produce more oxygen.

Some of our favorites include:

  • Aloe Vera
  • Areca Palm
  • Elephant Ear Philodendron
  • Lady Palm

Remove Airborne Pathogens

When was the last time you had maintenance performed on your heating unit? If it’s been more than two months, then there is another step you can take to improve your home’s indoor air: Change out the air filters.

Air filters should get replaced in your home every two to three months. This will improve the quality of your home’s air and the efficiency of your heating unit.
